Curious by Nature

This juvenile fox is still growing into its coat — and its reputation for cleverness. Here, it looks to the photographer with curiosity and caution after its sibling darts into a ditch of tall grass. A mother fox described as having ‘a huge tail’ has recently been seen moving across a nearby field. This photo was taken near the Chopek residence about three miles east of Provost. ©Provost News Photo.

Provost Buds Win Baseball Tournament
The Provost Buds baseball team took the title at the Medicine Hat Twiliters annual father’s day tournament in Medicine Hat with games held June 19 - 21. In the final, the Buds nudged past Kindersley to win 8 - 7. Also competing were Saskatoon and Medicine Hat. The Buds play in the age 43-plus category. Todd Baynham of Provost is one of the team’s original founders from nearly 30 years ago. He told The News that “It’s still fun. It does not hurt as much as you think,” and hopes people will get off the couch to play. He says that during the tournament, the younger 25-plus age group told him that ‘You’re still playing . . . there’s still hope for me.’ The age range of the Buds playing in the tournament was 44 - 65. “We had a blast,” he adds. The teammates come from areas including Provost, Coronation, Wilkie, Marsden, Lloydminster and Grand Prairie. Some of the athletes play in Phoenix and Florida, U.S.A. Baynham started playing baseball in Cadogan when he was 6 and has never missed a year except during the pandemic. Pictured back from left: Wade Goldby, Brent Appel, Lorne Nielsen, Brent Murray, Craig Traverse and Kyle Grocock. Front: Gray King, Darcy Meyer, Todd Baynham, Sheldon Manship, Sid Wells and Lorne Doell. Photo submitted.
